Old T-Mobile Internet App works, New T-Life app Doesn't

T-Mobile nagged me to use the new T-Life app for managing my TMHI 5G Gateway. So I did. I set it up a few days ago and it was working fine. I'm using both together with the old app.

The problem is the new app now doesn't work.

After a power outage, we got things back up and running. The Gateway is connected to the internet, all devices connected to it, it is speed testing at ~400Mbps, and is working fine. The old T-Mobile Internet App correctly shows it is connected with a good connection.

But the new T-Life app says our 5G Gateway is "Offline." That's wrong. It's very much online and working.

Seems T-Mobile released this app before it was ready for prime-time. I don't really have a problem with this situation. I'm just noting it here because T-Mobile doesn't provide another way to give this feedback.

I'm not going to use the new app until I absolutely have to. T-Mobile better get the new app right and working correctly before they retire the old one and make me use it.

  • I am having the same issue but I have already deleted the old App and installed their new Life App. The old App is now not available for download in the iOS store. So I am stuck with the new App. It intermittently shows the 5G Modem Offline while everything is online and fine. Also interesting is that it shows the Access point has a good connection. And also shows no active clients when I have 50+ clients connected as seen in the HINT control App.

I also have the same issue, luckily I didn't delete the internet app.  The T-Mobile Life app always shows that there is a problem with the server, but doesn't say what the problem is, just tap to retry and you are right back where you started.  Why couldn't they leave a working web interface?  With the web interface you can use a real keyboard and see more on the screen.  The Nokia boxes didn't last that long, but at least you could change a few things and have a real web interface..  And why can't you change your local IP ranges and DNS for DHCP?  Some of us have devices that need static address, such as a NAS and with DHCP having the entire range, the NAS device's address could get stepped on.  The people making these decisions obviously are not network people.

  • I also have a NAS and it seems to work fine for now by using a static IP address from inside the DS220+ NAS network interface. I also use Link Aggregation and have connected both the NAS Ethernet ports to the T-Mobile modem. However every once in a while it says IP address conflict on one port.

I also have a synology NAS, the DS920+ and had the same problem with link aggregation, but mine is connected to a switch.  Since you have no control over any DHCP settings, or ability to see logs, it makes troubleshooting almost impossible.  I think the issue is that it sees the same IP address on two different MAC addresses.  I did configure the T-Mobile box as just a modem, and used a different router, and the problem seemed to go away, but my speed went downhill.  Started out fast, but after a few hours would be down to LTE speeds.  Reboot the modem, and all would be good for a few hours, then back to a snail's pace.  So did away with the router and link aggregation.
