legal or illegal

What if my phone was bought for me as a gift, but I've never been given access to my account? The person that bought it and is paying for it is the only one that has access and he has paired my phone. He has  all access to my information, data, texts, etc. Is this even legal

  • Legal since they are the primary account holder and owns the line. Get your own plan with a new number, change all your passwords to verify to the new number.

Just because you are given a phone doesn't mean the service the person who gave it to you that they are paying for is also yours.  You are using their plan that they are providing to you and that they setup.  In the end, the phone might be yours but as long as you use the SIM/eSIM with their service in it.  Pretty much anything you do on it that is logged for billing purposes can be seen by the PAH.

If you have an iPhone, you can create your own Apple ID and not share the oassword with anyone to use with the device, if you haven't already, but features like Digits on that line can allow the owner of the line to see those as well.
