Android Native Visual Voicemail Trouble
I'm using a Pixel2XL on T-Mobile and the native Visual Voicemail (built into the Google Phone app) will not activate. The VM tab hace show, and I have the option checked in the menu settings for the Phone app. I continue to get the messages "Visual Voicemail Activating" and "Can't activate Visual Voicemail". I have VVM on my plan via the ONE Plus add-on.
I have removed the T-Mobile VVM app as I know that it will deactivate the native VVM. I have reset network settings, restarted the phone, and spoken with both T-Mobile and Google. I have yet to be given a reason this is not working.
(Note: brought the phone over from Verizon but it's unlocked - all other data and voice functionality is good)
UPDATED 7/13/2021:
For folks wondering if their Native VVM app will work on T-Mobile's network, here's some helpful info. The native VVM app on Non-T-Mobile devices isn't something T-Mobile can guarantee will work with the VVM service. This goes for other native apps as well. We recommend folks download T-Mobile Visual Voicemail app I've linked below and use the VVM service through that app. The second link I posted below is for troubleshooting if you happen to run into any issues.
We have a couple articles that can help with this. Check out the two links below in relationship to the issue.

Mine is still working. The "Apple Voicemail' thing also is appearing for the first maybe 10 secs of each message left, after which it gets converted over to the transcription. Strange behavior.
Also the voicemail tab is telling me the message was left 1 hour before the actual time, so that's off as well. For instance it's 12:30 Eastern here, and I just left myself a voicemail with another phone in my time zone, and the VVM tab in the Phone app says the message was left at 11:30.

Not working for me either. Using google voice for the time being. I refuse to use their app until this gets resolved.

How about native transcription? On my unlocked non-TMobile 6t my transcriptions are coming through as text messages instead of appearing alongside the relevant voicemail in the Phone app.
I have also found that native support for Name ID doesn't work. Which it did on my BlackBerry KEYone, at least on Nougat.

My Pixel 3XL finally activated visual voicemail today too.

I'm now also in the "magically started working" camp.
Go figure. We put up enough data and evidence, TMo finally seems to have gotten it SORT OF fixed.

I'm having similar issues with the app, I've had it for years and it worked perfectly. A few months ago it suddenly stopped working saying it can't connect to the servers, I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, but before I can tap through the setup, the setup screen disappears and goes right into VVM and gives me the same error message. Any idea on how I can get this back working. Note 8 just updated to Pie and running the latest VVM version.

One more to the list of dissatisfied customer. Moto G5 plus. VVM was working on prepaid but nit after I switched to T-Mobile ONE plus. What the heck. Customer support says are different systems. I don't care! It is all TMobile for me. The T-Mobile App doesn't work either.
Please fix this!

I have a factory-unlocked Moto G5Splus. My first Android phone. Everything worked beautifully with no bloatware. The native Android VVM worked beautifully until late May 2019. Now, I might get a notice that I have a voicemail message waiting . . . or I might not. The native VVM app that had worked well since December 2016 now petulantly refuses to work. Cycling it on/off did not help. Rebooting phone did not help. Cycling it off, rebooting and then turning on did not help. Removing the T-Mobile SIM (I'm on a prepaid plan) and cycling on/off has not helped. Next step is to back up and factory-reset. I keep getting this error: https://support.t-mobile.com/servlet/JiveServlet/downloadImage/2-669747-222533/415-900/Screenshot_20181221-175505.jpg
To wit: I am told "Can't activate visual voicemail . . . try again?"
Motorola tech support says it's a carrier app (it is not, it's the app native to a MOTOROLA phone) and is zero help.
T-Mobile equally unhelpful, stating that from their end, my visual voicemail is activated (free, I'm prepaid) and wondering why I haven't installed their crappy VVM app . . . because if I WANTED their bloatware, I would have bought my phone through a 2yr contract. I buy all my cellphones factory-unlocked specifically to avoid such crapware.
Anyone know how to reach the Android people about this? My phone started misbehaving shortly after a security upgrade pushed out by Motorola

I've been trying the steps outlined in the thread with no luck on the new Samsung Z Fold2 and the Google phone dialer now that its available for install.
For a split second I see the VM UI in the Google phone dialer, then it disappears completely.
Any ideas? Also, once in awhile it will give me a notification that they don't have my vm phone number even though one is there... Does anyone know the actual vm # so I can validate its the right one?

Same issue. I had a Pixel 5, it worked perfectly. I ended up returning it because it was too small.
Popped my SIM back into my iPhone, decided to use my 4XL, and I cannot get it to work.
The T-Mobile VVM app is garbage. I like having the native dialer.
