DIGITS calls have too much static

I am using my DIGITS line to operate my condo gate lock. To open the gate I press 7; and the touch tone triggers the call box to unlock. this worked 30% of the time in the past.

Now when I get the gate to call my DIGITS line, the connection has so much static that the touch tone lags, or sounds like beep-beep-beep instead of a solid BEEP, and the old gate system doesn’t trigger because the tone isn’t correct.

is there a solution to this? I have full signal + WiFi.
The problem occurs even when I’m not on WiFi so that’s not it.

Tbh,  im not sure how someone would get static on Voip.  Garbled/Muffled maybe.  Even old school amr-half rate at 7kbps could do tones 'mostly' properly.and much of the issue was from handoffs

  • if/when you make any other DIGITS call is it the same or is that call nice and clear?

Yes, I tested calling a person and there’s less static but enough that dial tones don’t sound clear enough to activate a touch tone system

  • doing a full restart on the phone doesnt improve anything? and which phone do you have?

Restating didn’t help. I have an iPhone 15 pro.
im pretty sure the problem is T-Mobile deprioritizes data connection for DIGITs lines, and it’s all VoIP, so the skipped or dropped packets are audible.

I don’t want to change my primary phone number to use the gate (which is restricted to only local area codes), but I’m not sure what else could cause this.
