HULU doesn't play well with TMOBILE home internet

I was happy to try tmobile home internet and it worked great for about a month.  I had one incident where HULU thought I had moved only to find that tmobile IP address had changed.  Hulu was able to match the new ip address which gave me a temporary fix.  Over the last two weeks, however, service has been spotty and my IP address was changed 4 times.  Tmobile service says "sorry, it doesn't support a static IP address and doesn't have a work-around for use with Hulu.

Question:  When selling tmobile home internet, can tmobile be open about the problem and tell potential customers that if they use Hulu, they should choose another service provider?

Unfortunately, that’s the way it is due to T-Mobile’s infrastructure - an explanation why can be found at:

    https://community.t-mobile.com/gateways-and-devices-37/5g-internet-showing-incorrect-location-52574?postid=202572#post202572

Note that @syaoran provided the solution and best answer approved by T-Mobile there. However T-Mobile should probably make this clear when signing up for home internet service. I believe it is probably covered in the terms and conditions but most folks don't read those.

Even my explanation is a “reader’s” digest version - there’s much more historical and technical detail.

I chose YouTube TV for the reasons mentioned (well that and the fact I go a T-Mobile discount for YouTube TV).

Excitedly, I ordered T-Mobile internet. After EVERY OTHER DAY of having to call in to have them reset my IP address, I finally got a person who explained the incompatibility. I returned the modem and now have Xfinity internet on a promotion. Once that ends, I am in trouble, because I will NOT pay Xfinity regular prices and nothing but T-Mobile is available on my street.

So long story short - T MOBILE NOT COMPATIBLE WITH HULU!!!!!

That person is wrong. They can absolutely reset your home location so that services like HULU can start working with your T-Mobile Home Internet Service. I have 4 TV and all streaming services only with them. They each can connect to HULU with no issues since the Chat Person rest my home location with the system.

    Same situation!

I'm looking forward to disconnecting my DSL line by using TM. But no. The issue with HULU LIVE and location continues.

I spoke with a TM rep at Costco the other day and he said they are working on a firmware update that would address the Hulu Live location issue. However, he may have been just blowing smoke! He said TM makes updates to their modems regularly and you won't even know it. Bottom line is these 2 companies need to work together to get this resolved. If not, I'll be changing something. Probably go to Youtube TV. I have read that the location issue is not an issue with Youtube TV.

  • I really like TMobile internet with mesh and want this to be our replacement for Fios.  It's just my wife and I so the speed is fine.  However, we are extremely frustrated with the Hulu live issue.  I have had to call Hulu 3 times in two days to do an IP override because Hulu will say I've changed locations.  I have Hulu live bundled with Disney and ESPN+ and we are grandfathered at a great price so we aren't getting rid of it.  My wife and I are having a debate about keeping it or going back to Fios.  I desperately want it to work due to the cost savings.  My wife just wants Hulu live to work.  I hope they come out with a firmware update soon to fix this issue.

  • Good to know.  Am on day 3 of my 2 week trial and came to see why Hulu live won't work.  Now I know.   I'll return it tonight with these comments.  Thanks everyone.

Well, gang, luckily Quantum Fiber became available and we just switched and will dump T-Mobile  Fiber internet is a fixed location. T-Mobile uses cell towers and if it hits on a different tower each time that's when it reads as a different location. BYE BYE T-Mobile! Your lying ensures I will never use your other services either!
