Delete Wi-Fi network on 5G Gateway

I have T-mobile's home internet with their 5G Gateway. I am unable to delete the wifi network, as it says at least 1 network is required. I have my own router connected to it as I have multiple devices physically wired to my router.

The issue is that due to the gateway and router being very close to each other, the gateway's wifi is causing interference to the router's network being broadcast and thus causing lower speeds.

I with T-mobile would just let advanced users delete the default network. Anyone have a workaround for this?

  • You can donat least a couple of things.

    1. Set the band to 2.5GHz (assuming you use 5GHZ on your wired)
    2. USe the app called HintControl to disable Wifi

I have not tried this but maybe it could help.
Place the gateway in the top floor or attic sitting on top of a large metal plate. You might even get away with using aluminum foil. The metal plate would reduce the strength of the gateway wifi signals for lower floors, but still allow strong cellular signals from the tower. If you know the direction for the cell tower, you could place the box on that side of the house and not need much shielding.

Thanks for your input. I live in a single floor home and I don't have power outlets in my attic. So I can't try this out.

Looks like the solution from the other poster is the solution indeed.
