SIM Swap vulnerabilities/ 2FA risks
So with the onset of SIM swap attacks as well as numerous links over the year I wanted to start a discussion to talk about things that we as consumers can do to better protect ourselves. As well as I hope to share information and ideas to T-mobile to improve their security when it comes to our accouts. For those of you who don't know about the scam that has been going on a attacker will pretend to be you to get T-mobile to assign them a sim card with your number. It is a type of account takeover fraud that generally targets a weakness in two-factor authentication and two-step verification in which the second factor or step is a text message or call placed to a mobile telephone. Think whenever a bank for example sends you the little 6 digit code to your phone to reset a password as a example. I believe T-mobile should have measures in place that allow for a customer to require a instore visit as a pre-requiste before any kind of change like that can occur. T-mobile should also be sending updated alerts before any kind of change happens on the account to both the cell numbers on the account as well as the email address on file. These alerts should require approval before the change itself can actually go through. This would be far more full proof than just having a pin on the account and would prevent this scam from working as easily as it does. Thankfully, this has not happened to me but it is concerning as T-mobile is really lacking in providing tools for consumers to secure themselves.1.5KViews8likes5ComentariosRe: How long have you been a T-Mobile customer?
I have been a T-mobile customer since the end of 2013. I started with their prepaid plan and with an unlocked phone from AT&T. In 2014 I switched to postpaid and used an unlocked iPhone 6 with them. So 5 years almost, which is a wow moment because I don't normally think about it. I only have one line still and when I started out I had the simple choice plan that included Rhapsody for free which became Napster. Among other things, and then went to Simple Choice NA, finally I am on the One Plus plan. I am very happy with my service, I actually have coverage 90% of the time that matters. That's a huge difference from when I first signed up and spent half my time with no coverage, 25% on 2G and rarely I got LTE or HSPA+. T-mobile treats me really well to and I really am a promoter of the service. The value position is not as good as the older rates but that's why I was an early adopter way back when because I knew things would get better. I am very grateful that T-mobile has kept a friendly BYOD policy compared to other networks and am happy that things like HD calling was adopted so rapidly across the network.4Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: After latest update, GS9 keeps defaulting to Cellular Preferred over Wi-Fi calling
I am also a Galaxy S9 user and this may just be a bug that Samsung introduced in their update to One UI. Which is the one I think you are referring to. I have been able to fix the issue by putting the phone into airplane mode and then connecting to wifi so it has no options. Sorry if that's not a permanent fix but when it does occur it what I do.1Ver0likes0ComentariosRe: Deleted Photos
When you delete a picture on a iphone there is a album that is made called recently deleted. It will store the images for 30 days one the device so that you can recover them should it have been on accident. This can be found under Albums in the photo app on the device.8Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: My T-Mobile Login Loop Bug
I'm not a T-mobile worker... also no system is ever 100% secure. There are plenty of companies that have had similar issues ranging from retail chains like Target to actual banks like Chase. Sorry you had to change your password but is it really that big of a deal.7Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: Is the TM-AC1900 ROUTER still supported?????
The router you bought should work fine for your extender and realistically speaking you could just rely on the WiFi calling feature. Which is what I am assuming you did before. I also was not aware that T-mobile stoped offering the router which is a bummer since at the time it was a really good one. Anywho I would not worry to much as I said the router you got should be fine for your needs. Wireless tech really doesn't change that much from one generation to the next when it comes to routers. Plus even when it does you would need to have a certain level of bandwidth to even notice the difference. Most people in the US are still stuck with like a 15mb connection so yeah. Sorry you had the long ordeal but it looks like you will be squared away on this situation, still let us know if you need more help.7Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: Frozen phone
Hi this is a public forum so the posting of sensitive info is not advised like your phone number. As far as your phone you may need to let it just die if you are unable to power it off in anyway. Below I have posted instructions on how to perform a soft reset which won't lose your data and a hard reset which will erase everything. Master reset from settings menu A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail. No borra los datos almacenados en la tarjeta SIM o en la tarjeta SD. Haz una copia de seguridad de los datos en la memoria interna. From any home screen, tap the All apps icon. Tap Settings. Scroll to 'Personal,' then tap Backup & reset. Presiona Restablecer datos de fábrica. Si tu teléfono está protegido con contraseña, se te solicitará que ingreses tu patrón, PIN o contraseña. Tap RESET PHONE. Master reset with hardware keys A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloads, ringtones, images, apps, contacts, and Visual Voicemail. Press and hold the Volume up button, then press and hold the Power button at the same time until the phone turns on. When the device powers on, release the Power button but continue to hold the Volume up button until the Recovery screen appears. Use the volume buttons to scroll to 'Wipe data/factory reset', then press the Power button to select it. Scroll down to 'Yes - erase all user data,' then press the Power button to select it. si tu teléfono no responde en ningún momento mientras que realizas estos pasos, puedes reiniciarlo al mantener presionado el botón de Encendido por varios segundos. Press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds to manually reset the phone.23Visto1like0ComentariosRe: Billing Question
If you want to send checks in the mail you will need to sign up for paper bills. T-mobile will include a envelope each month so that you can send out the check to them. Just remember though if you go this route you will lose out on the discount that you receive on newer plans when being set up for auto pay/paperless.29Visto0likes0ComentariosRe: Not Receiving calls and delayed text messages
This kind of issue happens across all carriers. The reasons for which can vary and would require someone with the tools necessary to look at things for you. So basically I would call or message the team force team and explain the issue to them. I would also pay close attention to when this happens so that maybe a pattern can be formed. For example, delayed texts only occur when messengering person X from Verizon. Or maybe delayed messages only occur while messaging iPhone users. You can reach T-force by dialing 611 on your phone or over social media like Facebook/Twitter.3Visto0likes0Comentarios
