iPhone wil not send an RCS message after updating to iOS 18
After iOS 18 was made available, I had downloaded the update on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I was anticipating trying out the RCS messaging feature, I discovered right away that it isn’t allowing rcs messages to be sent or received.
in order to try to resolve the issue I went and searched for solutions. I have tried, restarting the phone, toggling on and off airplane mode, and resetting network settings. NONE of these solutions worked. last thing I did was I checked for a carrier updated and it is up to date. I further checked the IMS status and it shows that only voice and sms is allowed, and RCS is missing. knowing that is under E-SIM, I knew it had to do with T-mobile.
I have called T-Mobile customer care 3 times. the first call, they weren't knowledgeable on the subject of RCS. eventually I was transferred to a "Tech Specialist" that created a trouble ticket. a second call to see If I could get a knowledgeable customer service rep and I was referred to Apple suspecting it was a software problem. Apple refers me back to T-mobile stating that they don't have control over the RCS working on the network and that is the issue of T-Mobile.
attempt 3 with T-Mobile consisted of deleting my E-SIM and downloading a new one, which did not fix the RCS unavailability fiasco. I was suggested that I do a factory reset or a settings reset but at this point I don't think this the problem. Has anyone experienced this problem? if so have you resolved it? whad did you do? if it is all about IMS allowing RCS, how did you fix that? thanks in advance.

I solved it!!!! I've gotten rcs to work on my iPhone 16 pro. Go to cellular turn off your e sim or physically remove it. Wait 10 minutes. Restart device. Then go turn it back on.

The update on iMessage has happened on iOS 18. As for "messsge features rolling out to older devices" I just updated a friend's iPhone XR to iOS 18 and that phone is sending RCS messages without a problem. The IMS status shows that RCS is capable. On my IPhone 13 Pro Max the IMS status doesn't show RCS is capable even though the RCS toggle is turned on in iMessage. What shows up in IMS matters. All iPhones capable of receiving IOS, have the same messaging capability.
No problem for me on both 14 pro and new 16 pro. I can confirm:
- Messages settings has RCS enabled
- Carrier IMS status shows all three - Voice, SMS, and RCS
Doesn't look like Tmobile is the problem since Android phones have been using RCS for some time now. I think Apple is giving you the run around if it's not working.

@fuzzy i have even weirder problems. I'm on T-Mobile connect and I had an eSIM from 3-4 years ago. RCS was supported in the beta. I then left T-Mobile for a week before coming back. I got a new eSIM, this one supports 5G SA and VoNR. But now the IMS data shows RCS is not there, and my friend who I can even see RCS messages in the iMessage history, is now SMS only

It has been confirmed that it is the carrier. Just because Android had it for some years doesn't mean it is Apple. Case in point there are some Android phones that have had the same issue.
Its my ims and carrier I reset my eSIM but still not working

iOS 18, T-Mobile , rcs turned on in the iOS "messages" app. Rcs fails to send to Android user. It just fails. SMS works fine.

This is happening with other carriers as well. However I did speak with a T-Mobile rep on my last attempt to fix it and they said it's them and that they need to still do software updates so RCS can work with older iPhones. That I don't believe because I installed iOS 18 on a friends iPhone XR and RCS is working fine. I am starting think that it is the E-SIM itself and nothing else. Only way if I will know is when I upgrade from this phone to a newer iPhone (no time soon).
They being said, I gave up on trying to fix it. It's not a nice or death situation and most of the people I keep up with uses WhatsApp, signal or iMessage anyway. Also they all didn't know RCS existed.

UPDATE: I reset network settings (used iCloud to save and restore WiFi and BT passwords) and now I have RCS service (using WiFi calling through my home router.) Didn't work the first time I tried it, so 🤷.
Can even do group chats with mixed iOS and Android devices, which is a first. And Android users no longer get an error message saying I'm "off line" when they text me.

UPDATE: have since upgraded to an iPhone 16 Pro Max. the same situation. exsits. none of the recommended troubleshooting tactics work. The customer service rep even told me to take it to the store to get a warranty exchange. I told him that happened on the 13 Pro Max as well therefore it's not the phone. My Niece's and Sister's iPhones has RCS working fine. my line is the problem. It shows that they aren't too knowledgeable about fixing the problem, and don't have any real solution for this problem. so I am just going to switch carriers.

RCS is implented through iMessage and Apple's backend for iMessage to work. Not through the carrier IMS. Is there an update for iMessage for you? Even RCS on Android has to be implented through the messaging app to work. Not all features are rolled out to older devices and not as fast to encourage sales of the current models.
