Sagemcom Fast5688W USB-C port dead

Good day,

I keep my T-Mobile Sagemcom gateway cool by using a nifty little two-fan setup, where the one on the bottom sucks in cool air and the one on top blows out warm air. The fans are connected to a USB-A plug; I have a USB-A to C adaptor and it has been working great. 

Today, by accident I checked and noticed the fans were not working. I swapped out adaptors with no luck. I plugged the USB-A cable into my Mac mini server and the fans work. 

Question - have you ever had the USB-C port go inoperative? Any suggestions besides swapping the gateway out for another one?
