Trouble mailing trade-in device from any Okinawa US Military bases.
I am a military member stationed in Okinawa. Currently, no military post offices on Okinawa will let me mail out an iPhone XR for trade in. They said because of a recent incident where a lithium-ion battery exploded and caught other packages on fire in a plane, they will not allow anything with a lithium-ion or lithium-metal battery to be mailed out.
They suggested I go off-base to a local Okinawan post office and they will accept it, but then that means the USPS shipping label that T-Mobile gave me would be useless and then the mail-out would be void. I also cannot remove the battery from the iPhone since that would void the trade-in (also since removing batteries from iPhones would brick the phone because of Apple's anti-modification policy).
What do I do? I didn’t think there was going to be such an issue just sending a phone with a fully drained battery out just to do a simple trade-in. I think off-base would be my best bet, is there a way I can tell T-Mobile I’m using my own label?

You can still ship it in without using the USPS label. I have never used the label T-Mobile has given me for Trade-ins. I send it trackable and insured UPS with signature required to ensure my trade-in arrives quickly with proof. It's a small price to pay to eliminate a lot of potential hassles. I even shipped a trade-in from up in Canada to Assurant once without any issues because I was visiting family and friends when the deal was live.
Thanks! How do give T Mobile the mailing information?
You don't! There is paperwork you put in the box with your trade-in. Literally wrap it around your trade-in, bubble wrap that, put it in the box, seal up the box, copy the receiver's shipping address, put that on the box with your address, and ship it. Assurant or Asurion will inventory it as soon as it is received and that will show up when assessed in T-Mobile's system. I highly recommend insuring it and checking for signature required for delivery.

Wow! What a catch-22! It's going to be hard because if the phone has a value, it's dutiable when going through international post. Is there anyone you can give it to who is going stateside? I don't know what to suggest except to try to contact T-Force (@TMobileHelp) on Twitter.

Ok. I just wanted to ensure since it's close to my deadline to ship out the device and it takes almost 3 weeks for stuff to get mailed between the US and Japan. I don't wanna forfeit my trade in because I wanted to wait for my devices.

You can always provide the tracking number to T-Mobile and explain why to the T-Force Team since they are usually understanding.
