My background is in IT / networking and I started using Tmo Home Internet for the past 2 weeks. The router being shipped today to customers is missing very important features for power users - it actually broke my ability to remotely access my home via direct-connection using public IPv6 and IPv4 that I used on comcast. Contacting support for help is pretty much useless, although I have raised a few tickets regarding the major issues affecting me since switching ISPs, namely: Unable to ping my IPv6 WAN address given by T-mobile (to remotely monitor my internet connection) Unable to remotely access my home via my VPN server which listens to connections on the WAN IPv6 address (again, T-mobile is filtering ALL my incoming traffic - comcast, att fiber, other major players in the market don't do this filtering to endpoints except for spam port 25) Connecting to a VPN server hosted on the internet is unreliable and unstable. T-mobile does not offer IPv6 Prefix Delegation (comcast has it, att fiber does too) I've spent the majority of my time trying to figure out ways to make this work. Most folks out there are blaming the Nokia router firmware which is really locked down by T-mobile, so being the IT engineer I pretend to be I purchased a Netgear LAX20 which is T-mobile and AT&T certified - I swapped SIMs for my Home internet service and tested both. Even with a router that I fully control, with firewall disabled and allowing WAN icmp/ping responses T-mobile seems to continue to filter traffic (even pings!) incoming towards my service equipment…to make a fair comparison I got an AT&T SIM card and repeated the tests. On AT&T I can ping and access my device remotely when it is on the AT&T LTE network on the same Netgear LAX20. Decided to post here to vent and share some findings, as this is somewhat frustrating that other LTE carriers that do not offer 'home internet' service do allow you to control and manage your network as you see fit while the new "home internet" service does not give you any control at all. Those users who wish to be able to remotely manage their smart home should perhaps stay away for now until T-mobile decides to do the right thing which is for "home internet" service subscribers to have different security network rules than cellphones on the network. T-mobile please fix your business model for this new service, starting with adding the ability to request zero network filtering for home internet subscribers and the ability to get IPv6 prefix delegated.22KViews51likes57ComentariosGlobalProtect VPN not working with T-Mobile
I have seen several posts about VPNs not working with T-Mobile Home Internet. What is T-Mobile's plan to address this? I contacted my corporate IT department and they said it's not their VPN. All works fine on my old ATT home internet and Verizon Hotspot (work cell). Maybe I should drop T-Mobile Home Internet and go back to ATT.26KViews13likes60ComentariosCan't connect to work VPN using Sagemcom Fast 5688W Gateway
We got theSagemcom Fast 5688W Gateway model for Home Internet, however, we can't connect to the work VPN. We called customer support twice and their responses were that "we don't provide any support to VPN". The IT support of my company asked us to inquire about some settings and configurations to T mobile support and the response was that "this is a plug and use device. All you can see is the information on Home Internet App. We don't know more than you do." After some research on the community, it looks that some Firmware versions were released to specifically address the VPN issues, but it was for the Nokia gateway not the Sagemcom gateway,https://www.t-mobile.com/support/home-internet/nokia-gatewayWe wonder if T mobile can release similar Firmware updates to the Sagemcom gateway to address the VPN issue ASAP, such as, Resolves VPN tunnel protocols IKEv2/L2TP/IPSec Improves known issues: Cisco AnyConnect VPN; GlobalProtect VPN connection issues; Degraded experience1.9KViews5likes9ComentariosHow to Connect to a Consumer VPN on T-Mobile Home Internet (5G Nokia Gateway)
I am NOT paid or endorsed by any VPN company or anyone else to make this post. This is simply what works for me and my particular VPN client. I am using the Nokia 5G grey tube router, and I've seen a few posts complaining that they can't use a VPN with it. Also special thanks to the T-Mobile rep who advised me on some of this when I got the service. If you're using PIA (and this may apply to your VPN as well), click the 3 dots, go to your settings, and do the following under the Connection tab: Make sure your protocol is OpenVPN Change your connection type to TCP Change your configuration method to Static After this, close the settings, and reconnect to your VPN. If using other software, make sure to save your settings if it does not automatically do so. It may take 1-5 minutes for your IP to change to your VPN. After this, google "what is my ip" and make sure it matches with your VPN. In my case, it took about 2 minutes for my IP to completely change over, even after my VPN client connected. Below are some pictures for those of you who aren't quite as savvy: I hope this helps anyone trying to use a VPN. I can't provide any support beyond this post, so best of luck.36KViews5likes22ComentariosVPN (SonicWall) will not connect over T-mobile 5G Hotspot

I use AWS VPN to connect to my work. There are times when I'm on the road and need to connect to work. I used to be able to just use my T-mobile hotspot from my Mac and work anywhere I had T-mobile connection. Since about the beginning of the year, I no longer can connect via AWS VPN. In the last couple of months I've been working with our IT department to figure out if anything is blocked on their end. They have made sure that I'm not blocked when connecting via my phone hotspot. There appear to be issues with IPv6 connections, but there's nothing that I can change on my T-mobile connection from my iPhone to change any of that. Anybody can connect using AWS VPN over t-mobile hotspot?Solved1.4KViews3likes8ComentariosFamily Mode VPN … a problem for my daughter’s iPhone
Both my teenagers have phones. We have been using Family Mode for more than a year. My son does not complain and does not mess with his VPN connection. My daughter tells me that when Family Mode's VPN is turned on her iPhone 12 starts to slow down and/or freeze up. I would like to use all the parental tools available via the VPN connection and figure out why the VPN connection seems to be an issue. She seems convinced that turning off the VPN makes all her apps work correctly and quickly. Does this sounDfamiliar to anyone?727Visto2likes2ComentariosAnyone else have issues with just VPN or work related applications?
We've had Tmobile internet for a couple months now, and everything was great in the beginning. Now even with good speed tests and other traffic seeming to be unaffected, anything tied to working from home is just slow or unavailable. It feels like specific applications (MS Teams, Slack, Zoom, etc) and VPN traffic are being specifically targeted. We've called support numerous times, but since the speed tests seem fine, they say there is nothing they can do and that they don't really support VPN. Are we alone, or are others experiencing this? Has anyone done anything to get around these issues? We don't want to go crawling back to Comcast, but at least with them our internet functioned.Solved589Visto2likes16ComentariosJust cancelled my internet account because of no work vpn functinality
My work vpn has been abysmally slow. I called a few times and I was told that this would be resolved in 48 hours. The person that I spoke to had no idea what was going on. Given that I work from home, 48 hours is really unacceptable. Don't recommend this product for anyone that's working from home.102Visto1like1ComentarioBuilt in VPN is not working on iPhone 13 Pro Max
The built-inVPN has randomly started tweaking on my iPhone 13 pro max. It switches from on to off repeatedly and it is affecting the Wi-Fi connection and connection via data. I can't use certain apps without a connection and shows I'm offline even though I'm supposedly connected to internet. What is going on?132Visto1like1Comentario
