How to switch from post pay to prepay plan
Chat told me to go to a store. Store says they can't do it there. Chat doesn't seem to have a clue. 4 tmobile reps told me 4 different things and I am just too sick to fight over something that should be routine.
I want to switch from a tmobile post pay plan to a prepaid plan.
Now they are telling me that they will have to assign a new number while they wait to port my current number (from them to them).
How long does this porting take. I tried googling it, some sites say within a day, others say weeks.
I am guessing I can have 2 phone numbers during this process. I have 2 phones, Can i register my spare phone under the prepaid plan while continuing to use my good phone under my post paid number?. And once my number is transferred to prepaid, can i just move the sim card to my good phone?
Both phones are compatible
The link below shows the steps to convert from a post paid plan to a Tmobile prepaid connect plan. Looks like you need to buy a prepaid sim to start with.

the simple answer is to sign up as a new customer through the website. i didn’t know you could actually transfer your account that way…….alleged customer service insisted they had to do it, but they had no clue how!!!!!!!!

You can port.ypur postpaid number to prepaid in some circumstances. Customer Care can help but you will need to have a new SIM card for prepaid and the port is taken care of much easier in store.

Customer Care did not help as I said.
The store said they could not do it, as I said.
The correct directions are online. I've tried posting them twice.
All the tmobile employees were wrong.

The 1st response did a great job demonstrating why I am so aggravated. I clearly said i was getting nonsense from customer care, yet i am told they help…
i clearly said the store claimed they couldn’t do it, yet I was told it was the easy...that is the answer of a person who is highly qualified to work for tmobile…..the qualification is to be unhelpful.

I am not sure why your store doesn't want to take care of that for you. I have do e the reverse a d I had to do it in store if I didn't want to wait for the SIM to be shipped.

I do think i can get the SIM in store, but they can't switch the account. I have severe health problems, it took me WEEKS to get to the store after I was told I could go to the store and switch the account, only to be told I can't. It will be quicker for me at this point to have the SIM shipped...i wasted a lot of time and about $60 paying for the higher cost plan because I tried to do it the so called easy way.
I won’t go to my nearest store, because they pulled a stunt on me a year ago...the next nearest store is less than 15 minutes away...but i struggle to eat, use the bathroom, and just get out for basic necessities...I don’t have an extra half hour to go to and from a tmobile store again.

and also at the store, they told me i HAD TO change my phone number…..there is a law that requires porting of phone numbers..that changed years ago...its only in rare cases with some really small limited carriers that numbers can’t be ported….i am going from t mobile to t mobile…..the process takes 2-4 hours..but is also reportedly sometimes as little as 10 minutes….no need for a new number….i left without the SIM because there was no way I was changing my number...too many things connected to it.
