Galaxy S20 ported from Verizon does not get 5G from T-Mobile

I have a Galaxy S20 FE ported from Verizon and it almost never gets a T-Mobile 5G signal even in areas where family members who have brand new IPhones from T-Mobile are receiving strong 5G signals.  Customer service is telling me that this is a function of this being an 'older' phone that may not have the technology that will receive all of T-Mobile's 5G spectrum.   Huh?   Why couldn't they have told me this when I moved my 6 line account over to T-Mobile.

With any Samsung device.  Switching carriers, you definitely want to use ODIN to change to the appropriate firmware for your new carrier.  A CSC change just isn't enough because the base of the firmware and bands available will not change unless you use one of the methods to unlock additional bands.  The XDA forum for your device will have everything you need to accomplish this and get your device working just as good as if you had purchased it from T-Mobile.

  • The user's Samsung Galaxy S20 FE from Verizon rarely gets a T-Mobile 5G signal, while family members with new iPhones from T-Mobile do. T-Mobile customer service said this is because the phone is "older" and may not have the technology to receive all of T-Mobile's 5G spectrum. The user is frustrated that they were not informed of this when they moved their 6-line account to T-Mobile.
