Curious to hear how the new internet connection is working

I'm seeing lots of problems here with T Mobile's new internet service.  I've been considering using it, but want to know if it's worth the trouble to switch.  I have satellite internet now, Viasat, and it's been pretty good, better than Hughes, but only 5 gb monthly usage. After that, it's marginal.  I'm eager to know what you're experiencing if you've switched.

  • The quality of the service is heavily dependent on your location. Even if the tower is local you may be screened. That's why you get a trial period. You should not cancel your current service (If any), until till you're satisfied with the service. Also it takes some experimenting in you house to find the correct spot for the gateway (window, direction etc)

    In my case, I have had excellent service for the last 2 months. I don't get fixated on speed tests or bars. I am only interested in streaming video (Netflix, HBO, Paramount etc.) which has been excellent.

  • It's a cellular-based service, so you are just going to have to try it and see.  Like with any cell signal, there is going to be lots of variation.  Personally, I am shocked at how good my service is...I'm in rural NC, over 5 miles to the cell tower (but I do have line-of-sight to it), can connect to the N41 band most of the time and my download speedtests range from 40 to 500+ mpbs, with an average of well over 100-200, with a nice stable reliable connection.  I have AT&T fiber at my Florida house, and really can't tell any difference from user-experience point-of-view.  Obviously, YMMV, so you need to do a test run.

    I'm a data hog and none of the other services could even compare!!!  The cost is cheap and the other ones 'gouged$$$$' me and very limited gigs. On top of that, the traditional ones wouldn't even consider hooking me up, because I don't have a traditional residence.  I'm a RV'er and this service has been amazing.  We've only had trouble once, when we moved states away into a "boonies" situation and it kept dropping. Yes it took about 3 days for them to program/setup the nearest tower, but haven't had problems since.  We tend to forget that people working there aren't psychic and don't know we moved.  I can be on a heavy use app/gaming/etc plus my work computer, and my home computer and it just keeps on working fast. This service is truly amazing, I've had it for almost two years now. *** I have been using internet since we could first get it through the phone line. Yikes. When we thought one gigabyte for a hard drive on our computers was amazing; and now our cellphones stomp all over the computer so to speak.*** 

  • The service is absolute garbage nd just a scheme to get u to sign up for another line it works for maybe and hour nd then it drops the speed then u call them they troubleshoot it{or so they say) nd it’s back to square one truly the worst service ever thinking about switching to spectrum

    I will echo that the service is pretty much garbage. The tower is less than a mile from me, but I seem to have constant issues with speed or no connection.  I've wasted hours of time on the phone with support. All they ever do is reset the connection and say all the towers look good. It works okay for a couple hours and then the issues start again. Keep in mind that their home internet is also like 4th in priority (magenta max, business, other phone plans, then home internet). So if there are many users in your area, you'll definitely feel the drag at peak use times. If you're a mostly casual internet user, maybe you can get by with it. But I work from home and need a reliable connection. Even having the deal for $25 a month, I'm looking to switch back to cable.

    This service really surprised me too! Plus you can't beat the price and you you don't have to physically hook anything up, except electric for the tower. 

     

  • @nannieb43 I've had my service in S. Florida for about 4 months. I was fortunate to score the $25-for-life pricing back in December, so it was a compelling reason to leave Xfinity.

    I am connected via 4G LTE on the tower closest to me, but still get as high as 70 Mbps, and rarely less than 35 Mbps. We have 48 devices connected, including 3 Macs, iPads, iPhones, 3 Apple TV 4Ks, SimpliSafe with cameras, Blink, Ring and a lot of Amazon Echo devices. All of them work flawlessly on the Arcadyan KVD21 5G gateway supplied by T-Mobile.

    I can hear your frustration, but my experience is exactly the opposite of yours. I am very happy with the service. I wish I could connect to 5G and get better speeds, but everything works and I have no problem streaming 2 TVs simultaneously.

    I've had it a week. Never disconnected, but usually 4g. Spped like 20-40mbs down, 7-11 up. Fine for me. I'm in a bad cell area for all carriers. TMobile phone gets one bar in house. Verizon got one or two. Take the no risk trial. Save the box in case you want to return.

    I hope they continue to improve their network unlike ATT and Verizon who have done nothing for decades.
